Jade Bar at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa hosts two mixology classes every Sunday afternoon. The first is at 1 p.m., and the second – let’s call it a “remix” – is at 3 p.m. The classes, dubbed “Mixology 101,” are taught by three accredited mixologists, including Jason Asher, who was recently named GQ magazine’s “most inspired bartender” of 2010. The class also offers “a really good insight into the history of the cocktail, and why we do what we do,” says Micah Olson, another mixologist at Jade Bar, adding that a grapefruit mojito is a favorite among mixers. The downside to Mixology 101? You won’t be doing the mixing yourself, or drinking the results; customers learn through demonstrations. The upside? You’ll remember everything you learned so you can do it in the safety of your own home.
