Join us at this fun volunteer opportunity to help at a new non-profit school for low income families in Central Phoenix (More info about the school at the bottom). This is also a great way to meet other fun, spirited professionals in 20s/30s age group. The founders are young professionals who won numerous grants/awards from various national foundations.

Our major volunteer activities for the day will be broken into 2 categories:

1. 10 volunteers needed: Assembling furniture for the school (shelves,etc.)/ decorating the campus with posters, pennants, etc. (indoors activities)

2. 6 volunteers needed: leading outdoors activities for our students at our carnival (face paint, parachute, chalk) – shaded area under a large tree.

After the event, we will enjoy a Happy Hour at a neighborhood wine bar (The Whining Pig, a small, down-to-earth wine bar, popular among neighbors, rated a perfect 5 stars on Yelp! by over 100 reviewers ) – First drink on me!!!

So come hang out and help!! I will send additional details to those who sign up. The school is in a church building but not affiliated with it.

More about the school:

This free, non-profit school will open its doors to 150 low-income students in grades kindergarten through second grade this August. This Academy is unique in that it is part of the “New Schools for Phoenix” incubator program, a highly selective and competitive non-profit program devoted to expanding educational opportunities to all students throughout Arizona. Through this program, the school was awarded a start-up grant, which paid for its leaders to visit and gather best practices from over 50 of the top-performing schools for low-income students across the country. This is not just a school, but a movement to raise the bar for education here in Phoenix.
